I bow to Krsna, the guru of the universe, the divine son of Vasudeva, killer of Kamsa and Canura, the supreme bliss of Devaki.
In this verse, the author brings forth both the devotional and intellectual perspectives. One might wonder why this devotion necessary. Essentially, it puts us in the right frame of mind. Removes the negative, suspicious nature in us. There was a newspaper article titled, “Love is truly blind.” It says that they did medical research where they showed mothers photographs of various people. Somewhere in between the mothers were shown pictures of their children. When the picture of the child was shown to the mother, distinct aspects of the brain were activated and other aspects of the brain got de-activated. Parts of the brain known as the reward system were turned on and other parts of the brain involved in making negative judgements were switched off. Similarly, that part of the brain which causes euphoria, pleasure, love, exhilaration needs to be activated in the study of the scriptures and in fact in life in general. While that part of the brain which makes negative judgements needs to be de-activated. Continue reading
